Cerkno – Lamk – Cerkno (3,7 km; 1,5 h)
From Glavni trg in Cerkno, we head along Jerebova Street. From Jerebova Street, we continue across the bridge to Bevkova Library. There, in the heart of a small park, an introductory board awaits us with information about the Partisan Ski Trails and the entire route. We continue the path behind the apartment blocks. There, a new directional and informational board awaits us. After 30 m, the path branches uphill across the meadow. The path then leads between houses to the forest and then ascends through the forest to a forest clearing. From the forest clearing, we then continue the path uphill.
In the forest, at the intersection with the trim trail, we turn right onto a flat path. We continue through the forest along a well-maintained forest path, which after approximately 700 m brings us to a meadow. On the meadow, a new information board follows with beautiful views of the highest peak of Cerkljansko – Porezen and the picturesque villages below it. From here on, we only descend, across a blooming meadow, then along a forest path through the forest, past streams and clearings. At the intersection, we turn right and descend to the settlement of Cerkno.
Commemorative Trail
The Partisan Ski Trails path is a circular thematic hiking trail dedicated to preserving the historical memory of a unique sporting event that brought moments of hope, courage, and national consciousness during World War II. In 1945, Cerkno became the venue for the first organized partisan ski competition in occupied Europe, and many called the resounding event the partisan ski Olympics.
This exceptional sporting event left an indelible mark on the partisan movement of the time, and its influence is still felt today, as part of the collective memory and national identity of Slovenia.
Visitors on the path follow the route of the former patrol race, which is adapted to today’s conditions. The site of the former ski jump and the finish line of the giant slalom course are on display, and thematic explanatory boards with photos, explanations, and authentic stories of the participants of the partisan ski competition provide a complete experience.
