Očanc Cheese in a gift box
For a decade and a half now a family farm, which lies at the altitudes from 850 m to 1050 m, has been producing homemade dairy products in a natural and organic way. In their own production facilities, following traditional practices and without adding preservatives or chemicals, they turn fresh milk into a wide range of dairy products. Their dairy products are made from unpasteurized milk, which is the essential difference between theirs and industrial products. Following the Swiss example, they graze the cattle in summer and feed them exclusively with hay in winter. This results in a better quality of products, which they can prove with the numerous quality awards they’ve won. By prior appointment, they will be happy to organize a tour of their farm and a tasting of their products.
Forest honey – Beekeeping Lapanja
Who doesn’t know the products we get from beehives? We have been sweetening our lives with the bee’s gold for centuries. As a curiosity, let us mention that the Carniolan honey bees like to collect the nectar of leaves and twigs of maples, spruce trees, and silver firs. An excellent forest honey is made at the Lapanja honey farm with their help. The Lapanja honey farm has received many distinctions and awards for its products. At the international honey judging event in Semič the farm received gold awards for the forest and linden honeys and at the national judging event in Naklo and Ilirska Bistrica the gold award for the linden honey. The entire range of products includes honey and bee products (monofloral honeys – forest, flower, linden, acacia, chestnut, silver fir, and spruce, pollen, propolis, creamed honey, honey with extra ingredients, beeswax), they make honey in a creamed state (creamed honey), creamed honey with herbs added (yarrow, balm, sage), and a mixture of creamed honey, pollen, and propolis. They also offer honey in the virgin comb, which is honey in its highest-quality form.

Semi-hard Cheese
The Pri Bašlju farm in the village of Jazne is located on the hillsides of the Idrijca river at the altitude of 650 m. The farm which cultivates 24 ha of meadow and pasture land produces semi-hard cheese from raw cow milk following the technology used in making Tolminc cheese. Their cheese received the gold award at the “Dobrote slovenskih kmetij” (Eng. Delicacies of Slovene Farms) judging event in 2016. They also offer cheese with extra ingredients: walnuts, chives, green pepper, and sweet bell peppers (green or red).
They keep 20 dairy cows at the farm, so they don’t run out of milk. Apart from making cheese from raw milk following the technology for making Tolminc cheese, they also produce other dairy products. Among other things also fruit yoghurts with strawberry, vanilla, pineapple, peach, forest berries, and baked apple, for which they received the gold award at the “Dobrote slovenskih kmetij” (Eng. Buckwheat bread with walnuts
Štefka Kejžar from the Košenija farm in Gorenji Novaki also bakes a batch of buckwheat bread with walnuts on weekends. Its main characteristic is that it stays fresh for a long time. Customers who buy it regularly say it is so good that they can eat it without putting anything on it. Interesting fact: for buckwheat bread the wood-fired oven needs to be even warmer than when baking other kinds of bread, so this bread is baked as the last batch at the Košenija farm.
The farm also offers other products: fruit (cherries, apples, plums, blueberries), vegetables (organically grown seasonal vegetables and potatoes), bread (apart from buckwheat bread with walnuts also whole wheat bread, mixed-flour bread and white bread), poticas (potratna potica – Eng. “wasteful” potica, walnut, and coconut potica, etc.), traditional pastries (salty little poticas, different strudels, pies, and different kinds of home-made cookies).
