Cerkno – Zakojca (12 km; 3 h)

From Glavni trg in Cerkno, head along Jerebova Street. Continue to the end of the street and cross the bridge, after which turn right onto the sidewalk. After 50 m, a sign directs us to cross the road and continue past the apartment blocks. After 30 m, the path branches uphill across a meadow. The path then leads between houses to the forest and then ascends through the forest to a forest clearing. From the forest clearing, continue uphill.

At the intersection with the trim trail, turn left uphill and continue along the ridge through the forest. At the pass, turn left at the first intersection, where after 500 m you will reach the first houses, then continue towards the center of the village of Zakriž. In the center of the village, turn right to reach the intersection with a wooden farm building and the road connecting Gorje and Ravne. 30 meters after this intersection, join the cart track that leads uphill across the meadow to the forest. The path then leads through the forest past houses and then ascends along a narrower cart track in the forest to the main road before Jesenica.

Then we continue 300 m along the main road uphill, in the direction of Jesenica, and then turn left along the path. The path continues across the meadow through the forest and constantly ascends above the village of Jesenica. Then we follow the path for a long time to the Vrh Ravni pass. At the intersection of the Vrh Ravni pass, we then turn off in the direction of Zakojca, where a descent awaits us to the village of Zakojca and Bevkova domačija, which is located below the center of the village of Zakojca.

France Bevk was one of the most recognizable Slovenian writers and publicists, who closely connected his love for nature and homeland through his work. In his books, he often described the lives of ordinary people and Slovenian countryside, while also being a passionate lover of the mountains. Bevk’s Trail is a thematic hiking path that allows visitors to experience a part of the natural and cultural heritage that inspired this great Slovenian writer.
